Date: 22 November 2017
Time: 08:00 – 13:00 Pacific
Location: Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge
I always forget about Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge when picking places to shoot. I was planning to go to Cathedral Gorge State Park, but I don’t really feel like a 3-hour road trip one way. I’d have to leave super early to have enough photo time. I think I’d rather visit Cathedral Gorge State Park when I have some camping equipment and can stay overnight.
Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is about 20 miles west of Pahrump, NV on the way to Death Valley. It’ll take about 1.5 hours to get there. My aunt and cousin have been there. They say it’s an oasis in the desert, with ponds/lakes, lots of migratory and nesting birds, including green herons, great blue herons and various raptors. So, I’ve changed my mind about tomorrow’s day trip. Instead of Cathedral Gorge State Park, I’m going to go to Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge to shoot a variety of birds (hopefully), other wildlife (hopefully I will see some), and some landscapes.
